London’s inaugural “Jewelry Week” running from June 11-15th will serve to showcase new and existing jewelry designers.

A key feature of the week is a platinum and diamond encrusted handbag designed by Japan’s Ginza Tanaka, first unveiled in 2007.

The bag, which will apparently be on sale has been set with more than 2100 diamonds. The diamond shoulder strap can be detached and worn as a necklace, and the 8 carat pear shaped diamond centerpiece can be removed and worn as a brooch.

It’s nice to know that paying $2 million for this bag means you also get a necklace and a brooch.

Two luxury watch and jewelry fairs are happening this week in Geneva. Close to 100,000 watch retailers, buyers and collectors from around the world are expected to attend the Baselword 2008 and Salon International de la Haute Horlogerie exhibits.

Debuting there is Dewitt’s Tourbillon Différentiel, this limited edition watch is housed in 950 platinum, 18-karat rose gold and a blend of 18-karat rose and white gold, with a black alligator leather strap.

Price tag- $220,000 - $250,000

And I thought my $9.99 watch from Wal Mart was pretty good…
